Would the world be better off low tech?

With the threat of Hackers hijacking present day (2015) to future automobiles, stealing peoples tax returns, and breaking into bank accounts. Would the world be better off returning to the state that it was in during the 1980's? I'm sure that I've only touched on minute reasons why this idea may be the best idea for this planet. What do you guys think?

IMO, no. There's been too many advances in the medical field alone to go back to 80s level tech.

Society advances, crime advances, thats just the way it is. Takinv everything back a notch is just going to give you retro criminals.

Yeah. 👆

No, computers sucked back then.

Yes ppl lived longer and healthier before tech

😬

Thats not even right.

Taking us back to 1980s tech wouldn't solve any major problems. We'd still be poisoning the earth with pollutants, there would still be hacking (albeit less sophisticated and it would have less of an impact because of the reduced importance of computers), and the loss of medical advances would lower life expectancy.

Yes, you just have to go back further.

Lil Bitchiness once claimed that nuclear war would benefit mankind by taking us back to the stone age.

That's a level of commitment I can get behind. 👆

Crime rates are lower than they were 30 years ago. At least in the US. And the amount is significant. It may just be correlation, not causation, but there exists ample empirical data to refute the OP's suggestion.

Anything else is just us enjoying the sounds of our own voices (or keyboards, as it were).

The fact is that even though the bad guys can benefit from the tech, it's just as difficult to go against it. It's nearly impossible to rob a bank nowadays for example. Hackers can be traced if you have skilled enough counter-hackers, etc...

No matter what, the criminal element will always adapt and evolve, but it becomes much harder the more advanced things are.

We just need to start killing off people who may become hackers preemptively. Problem solved.

Wait a sec, you mean like walking up to someone, and telling them "Hey I know that you will grow up to be a notorious Hacker so you're dead" type of deal? Please say it aint so Bentley. LOL.

Aside from that I got completely taken away by the Ran Prieur Archives last night, and spent hours just reading subject after subject on it. Here's one.

Is Artificial Intelligence a Threat? This long article is about Nick Bostrom and other thinkers who see the danger that a powerful nonhuman intelligence could destroy humanity by seeking a seemingly benevolent goal without common sense. Isn't that what we're already doing with the global economy, a machine-like system programmed to maximize economic growth?

Also in case anyone else may like to check the site out I'd like to post the link.

Very interesting ideas for future threads lie on this site IMO.

I know right. LOL.

Not unless I still have my internet, no. Also, my medication only got approved in the 90s, so that too.

LOL@ an artificial intelligence destroying or ruling humanity. That's nonsense. An AI is only as smart as it's programmer at best and I'll never be convinced than any AI will be superior to a healthy human mind.

I really enjoyed the Terminator movies though. 😄

It doesn't actually need to be smarter than us, AI only needs to be smart enough to kill us.

Which is still extremely unlikely. I actually think there's a much greater chance of aliens invading or even zombies rising. LOL.
