You are right, I don't think the people that are against citizens having guns are usually the people that want a more militarized police force though.
From my experience, neither anti-gun American liberals nor pro-gun conservatives are for the further armament and militarization of the police forces.
A quick run down through my Facebook friends and I can see plenty of anti-Police State and anti-"Police on citizen violence" from both my liberal friends and conservative friends.
Now, this does not mean my friend's list on Facebook is indicative of the average liberal and average conservative in the US. Of course, I may have a selection bias when it comes to my Facebook friends. But I highly doubt I have a selection bias.
I get to hear and read about very conservative and religious beliefs all the time from American conservatives (Mormons and Christian Evangelicals: so many in Oklahoma). More so than any other group, religious conservatives are strongly opposed to a police state. I believe this has a bit to do with the religious belief of free will/freedom that is part of their beliefs. This is also why they are strongly opposed to the NSA activities. But, and this runs counterintuitive to my previous statements, they seem to be more pro-war. That's so completely ****ing stupid. Did Jesus stutter? What about turn the other cheek do they not understand?
