Pretty sure Obi-Wan only felt that because of how monumental it was. I mean, that's potentially trillions of beings dying in a single instant; and I wouldn't be so sure he was quite that far away, either.
But yeah, on a general level it'd be pretty sucky, since most of the greatest Jedi have empathetic senses that are, to varying degrees of accuracy, on a planetary scale.
Yeah, billions if not trillions of people simultaneously dying is a far-cry from a few hundred or even a thousand.
Something else to keep in mind, in real life ~150,000 people die across the globe every day. Imagine how many people die daily on a planet like Coruscant, which has a population of 1 trillion. You're looking at easily millions or even billions of deaths per day, which translates to at least thousands of deaths per second. The Jedi seemed to do okay, though, despite living there. They could even meditate and relax lol.

It does seem like it's only an *unusual* ripple in the force.
Like, the normal cycles of life and death, you don't feel it much because there's also new life as well as death. Or maybe just other life around absorbs and lessens the effect. Coruscant has a ton of people and probably about as many births as deaths.
Hm... that makes me wonder if a billion people coming into being at once would cause a reaction.... probably wouldn't work with most life as growth and birth is sooo gradual compared to death, but, like, if you had a species that grew to a noticeable size in a day....

Even mega disasters normally aren't so *sudden*.
Like, an earthquake? People'll die of collapsing stuff and bleeding outover a fairly long period, hours depending on how bad their wounds are.
Tidal waves? Spread out over minutes just for drowning victims in the same area.
Superlaser? Everyone dies the same second.
