Urban Legends & Myths

Post your stories here! 🙂

I'll go first.

So, I was fascinated with the Mothman during High School, I tried to convince all my friends he was real, even found a topix.com thread about him coming through my town. I did do something shady and posted a fake photo-shopped video on youtube of him flying above our local library, but that was when I was young and stupid.

Wide-face people. I get worried about the wide faces coming up behind me. That and the chupacabre, or however you spell it.

Then there was this other thing, it's an urban story but not a myth.

This guy.

I walked past the place where this guy lived (and killed his victims) every day to school. The flats were right next to my school, too. Before he was caught, I remember everyone talking about a serial killer who lived around there, and we walked around the flats as a kind of dare to each other, thinking it was all bollocks. But it wasn't.

Black eyed kids.
They show up at your door and ask to come in, or you go to pick one up hitching, and more come up to the car.
Either way, you wind up disappearing.
Ties into fairy abductions, supposedly...

The White Death.

A little girl hated life, her parents found out she killed herself because she hatedlife, the girl's ghost kills her parents, and now in the afterlife, she kills anyone who tries to tell her story.

She'll knock on your door louder and louder till you answer, then she'll kill you by tearing you limb from limb.

Fatface: he comes out of nowhere on your 40th birthday and eats you twice. Wow so scary amirite

What if you say "no" to them coming in?

Supposedly they cant/wont come in.
Watched a show on myths/cryptids with eye witness interviews.

Ok, I'mma do that.

It was creepy, as i lived in a fairly rural area at the time. My imagination easily provided knocks at the door...

Just be like "**** off my property, *****, this ain't no sideshow, nigguh!"

For some reason Slenderman really freaks me out, even though I know it's a made up thing. Suppose it doesn't help that there's loads of trees and foliage in and around my back garden.

But...i AM the nigguh. 😉

Preeeetty sure i've read this before, but it still creeps me out. Home is where you're supposed to be safe, so these always strike a chord with me.

This girl was babysitting for some family friends one night, a little boy and a little girl. The parents had a fetish for clowns and had collected clowns from around the world for years, setting aside a room in the house just to put them on display. That night, the children were playing in this very room. Many of the clowns were just statues, and some were life-size, one in particular, was seated in a small child-like rocking chair.

The babysitter started to feel more and more uneasy about this statue throughout the night. She felt as though the eyes were following her, whenever she moved around the room with the children. She decided to call the parents. "I’m so sorry to bother you", she said, "but I was wondering if I could move this clown that you have in the rocking chair, it’s starting to scare the kids and I."

"What clown are you referring to? I don’t recall us having a clown fitting that description. Are you sure its sitting in the rocking chair?" the mother asked hurriedly.

"Yes, I’m sure.” said the girl. "It’s sitting right here, I’m looking at it right now…Why? I know it’s probably very old and I shouldn’t attempt to move it out of the way, but."

"Take the kids and get out of the house, now. The neighbor across the street will let you in. Call me immediately when you get there." and with that, the mother hung up.

Frightened and confused, the babysitter grabbed the kids and ran out. When she and the kids arrived safely at the neighbors, she called and the mother answered. "What’s wrong? Did something happen? Are you all okay?" the girl asked.

"Yes, we are fine, but it’s not us we are worried about, it’s you and the kids. I’m so glad you called–we were afraid this would happen again. We will be there shortly along with the police, I’ll explain everything when we get there", and the mother hung up.

The parents later explained to the girl that for some time, the next-door neighbor had been giving them problems. He was mentally ill, heard voices, the whole bit. On numerous occasions he had snuck into their house and tried to kidnap the children. This time, he dressed up in a clown suit, painted his face, and waited quietly until he had the opportunity to do what he came to do.

The parents had informed the police many times but never had any proof until now about what was happening. They thanked the girl, paid her, and drove her home.

Variations:

The clown is sometimes in the living room.

The clown statue turns out to be a “little person” that was living in the garage for 4 months and would go in and get food whenever the parents left the house. This time, he saw the parents leave, and went in to get food like he always did, not expecting there to be a babysitter in the living room.

Sometimes the babysitter calls the parents asking them if she can put a blanket over the clown statue.

The Hat man.

The hat man is appears to misty childern and follows them threw out their life. People mistake him for the shadow people but he is his own thing.

What's a misty child?

I love "true events" movies...

The 2013 movie Shadow People depicts a sleep study conducted during the 1970s in which patients report seeing shadowy intruders before dying in their sleep. The movie follows a radio host and CDC investigator who research the story, and the story is claimed to be "based on true events".

..makes a good movie even creepier.

To be fair, though, "based on true events" usually means "not based on true events"

So true, i just love suspending my disbelief for a couple hours.
Its one reason i had so much fun traveling through certain parts of Texas when i was stationed there.
My friends'd make chainsaw noises every time we stopped anywhere.

Hahaha, that's pretty good. It even kind of sounds like a film – "These soldiers thought they were safe on their home soil – they weren't"

But yeah, I've always found going camping with friends and telling local horror legends to be far scarier than anything a film can muster. The imagination is our greatest asset and our most dangerous foe.
