I've actually been playing that too.Using Cherry mostly.
Was against a wall named Max in stage 9, really struggled getting in a combo using Axel without taking a ton of damage. Finally tried Cherry properly. I beat the stage with one lost life early on in the level (Mad fun dashing all over the place and just juggle blitzing everyone, but she really is a glass cannon), and one lost to Max
The ability to dash really changes the game. Almost too much, I wonder if they balanced the game around her dashing ability so she wouldn't be too op and ended up breaking it for everyone else?
I mean, I'm sure you can handle Max with practice, but all that armor practically demands defensive options that just aren't there for someone like Axel.
.
And first A ranks on hard.
Probably could have been an S if I hadn't dropped a blue combo or two.
Looking at the online leaderboards, I'm seeing upwards of 100 mil for a single stage? That's clearly hacked, right? No way it should he possible to string together that kind of score even from perfect play.

Shiva is coming to the game 4th Streets of Rage as a playable character, Along with Estel Aguirre & both Max Thunder.
Yeah, I don't know what I'm gonna do when it hits. I usually wait for sales, but I'm so deep onto the base game now I just may pony up the 7 and a half bucks.
Depends on how much content is added though. If its all characters, no extra stages or story, I may pass until I finally unlock all the retro characters. Maybe even shoot for achievements, I normally never do that but this game kind of demands doing everything to extend longevity.
So it does get a survival mode. And all the characters get additional unlockable moves usable in all modes.
From the video talk with the devs, it sounds like they'll replace rush moves like Grand Upper with other moves.
It all sounds interesting, but not so sure its an essential dlc. Not when its nothing more than a few new characters, new moves, and a "wave mode".

Ok
Stage 12 Hard is hard.
Tried it with Cherry, actually did worse compared to Axel 1. The super armor is just ridiculous, and the way they charge though you. Even mooks randomly get armor and uppercut you or spin kick you.
I can see the complaints that they overdid the armor. Almost like they had no idea how to make a challenging beat 'em up unless everyone can tank your attacks.

Cherry seems to be in the "really good but trickier to get damage with" category.
Again though, that's from the more hardcore SOR crowd. I'm casual as hell, and play Cherry because I'm just too used to mobility in modern beat 'em ups. Even if she was weak, having to plod around during stages annoys me.

So, any other recommend brawlers? Not Castle Crasher types please, never met one I liked except Charlie Murder (Game is AWESOME)
Do you dislike level progression systems in beat 'em ups?

I don't know to be honest. I did a little digging, and most the streamers/leaderboard players seem to think Adam and Blaze are the best characters in the game. They have an infinite combo that completely trivializes boss battles apparently. And Blaze is pretty mobile if you don't using health for her air special. I wish the leaderboards showed which character the player used though. More data to work with.Cherry seems to be in the "really good but trickier to get damage with" category.

I had a couple in mind, but it depends on what you mean by "Castle Crasher types."

I liked Double Dragon Neon.
Actually, I also liked Sacred Citadel along with Charlie Murder. I didn't like Castle Crashers itself though.
But what I mean is I don't really consider games like Sacred Citadel, Castle Crashers, or Charlie Murder to be brawlers in the same vein as Streets of Rage 4 or Double Dragon Neon. They don't "feel" the same, can't really explain it too well.
