One thing Reeves said, that I liked, was that Gotham itself was going to be treated like its own character. They actually went and copied a lot of gothic architecture so that it would actually have a distinctive look.

I think that's one thing that will set the movie apart from Nolan's trilogy.

Good. Gotham should be dark and creepy and a gothic flare can help that.

^ Glad to hear that. 👆

Anyone know what era this is supposed to be set in?

The trailer gives a 50's murder/mystery thriller feel.
Then there's the English settings to pass as Gothic America...

What's "weird" to me is Bruce's modestly created costume & the obvious home custom job to the bat mobile.

But then you see people with smart phones so there's better technology apparently available but Bruce doesn't seem to adopt it...?

Overall...very keen on this adaptation.

i believe late 90's, early 2000's

Modern day. Batman is being recorded on a cell phone when he beats the thug down.

Robert Pattinson tested positive for covid. So production has been halted again.

Hopefully he gets through it. Given his age I'm sure he will.

well he is the mother****king batman 😄 😄

Dwayne Johnson and his family just tested positive for it too recently. This sucks, though hopefully they'll all be fine.

Damn, he won't be able to smell what the rock is cooking if covid robs him of his sense of smell.

6 Baffling Robert Pattinson Stories That Raise More Questions Than Answers

Glad to see that the GCPD seem to a functional relationship with Batman. It does get tiresome to see Batman get hunted by the police and shit in live action, saw enough of that in the Nolan trilogy and BvS. The police chase in Begins and TDKR was pretty fun though.

Though...then does this give anyone who wants to be a vigilante free reign? Why should Batman be allowed, but not others?

That is probably why the cops always hounded him.

I've never been a fan of Batman (or Spidey for that matter), working with the police force. It makes for better conflict when they have less support/allies IMO. Plus, police shouldn't really be for these heroes beating the living sh*t out of criminals. Especially Batman since he can sometimes be a bit more brutal. I know these are stories about super heroes (I know, I know; "muh realism"😉, but that shit would never fly with any real world police force no matter how effective super heroes are.

I remember one comic where Spider-Man encounters Shocker, who he has fought before, and is all "I've beaten you 4 times how are you out of jail".

Then Foggy Nelson, yes *that* Foggy, comes and points out how Spidey just sort of leaves criminals webbed up to poles and stuff and how any decent lawyer could get the charges dismissed.

Reminds me of a scene from venture bros. where Captain Sunshine just plain drops Monarch into a prison lol. No due process, just legit drops dude into a prison yard and flies off.

What you're talking about was actually a large part of Batman's early years as a crime-fighter (which I believe this movie is taking from quite heavily). Gordon's relationship with Batman only really starts to improve once Batman tones his shit down, and even then, large parts of the GCPD are still either horribly corrupt or just plain against the idea of someone like Batman operating at all.

Though then again, Gotham is literally the worst city in the western world in DC. It wouldn't function in the real world.

Police don’t like vigilantes, you say? Maybe you should tell that to all the cops who wear the punisher logo all over everything.

Not always. The reason why GCPD, when led by Jim Gordon, eventually allow Batman to operate without interfering is because Gotham law enforcement too inadequate to deal with how corrupt Gotham is. Without Batman, Gotham is doomed. Jim didn’t always support Batman, in Year One he he sees Batman as a threat but eventually recognises that Batman is actually very helpful and effective in dismantling crime and corruption in Gotham. Gotham’s law enforcement is so corrupt that at some point, corrupt cops like Flass and several others gang banged Jim Gordon and beat him up, not enough to put him in hospital, but for the purpose of trying to make him submit because he was perceived as too much of a goody two shoes on Year One. When Batman came along, he helped purge corrupt cops as Jim himself says in “The Man Who Laughs” story.

Another reason why Jim allows Batman to operate is because he has that creature of the night factor to him, criminals are scared of Batman because they’re a cowardly and superstitious lot, they don’t see Batman as some man in a costume. In fact, criminals are not even sure he’s human because Batman has an aura of mystery because he operates in the shadows, disappearing on a dime. Criminals feared Batman because he seemed supernatural and mythical to him because of his application of stealth, martial arts, gadgets and detective skills. Batman won’t kill criminals, but he beat the crap out of them.
