So most of the expanded universe "overwrites itself and sucks?

I heard jealous disney fanboys say this, but does this have any truth to it?

The EU is hit-and-miss, but there's good quantities of good stuff (like, most of the Dark Horse comics. The Knights of the Old Republic comic with Zayne Carrick is some of the best star wars stuff out there). There is some contradictions, but it doesn't overwrite itself that often.

The old EU was so large, that it is impossible to rate it as a whole. All I know is that their was some great material in its body back in the day.

We're probably talking something like a hundred plus novels and a couple hundred comic issues, plus other non-novel books and such. And a dozen or so video games of noteworthy amounts of plot.

It had plenty of awesome stuff.

Dark Times, Cade Skywalker, Briggs one-shot, Crimson Empire, Kyle Katarn, Obi-Wan origins books... and much, much more.

Everything about other eras outside the Rebellion and Clone Wars? That's EU, and much of it is awesome.

A lot of the weaker EU stuff is in the rebellion era (which was almost the only era for a good chunk of the EU, but even there there's some real gems. The X-wing novels are fantastic, for example.
