Spot got upgraded. At the end of his run with Spidey, after he lost his son, he became dead serious, and less of a joker:

The shockwaves from a punch made by this version of Spiderman would probably kill spot. Remember, Spiderman is aware of his upgrades and have experience fighting Spot. Why take the physical approach when you can beat your opponents from a distance.

Over 500m, he has easily gone back into his Spot Dimension before Spidey attacks - it's his usual tactic. I can show scans if you want - you know I repped his powers in the tourney.
