Just because a ridiculous story is old is it less silly?

What do Harry Potter, LOtR, Action Comics 1, The bible, Koran and Torah, have in common?

Made up stories which are un realistic and silly, so why do rational people believe in such twaddle just because the stories are old? Or do rational people not believe in it at all. Is Faith an interchangeable word for gullible.
