I second the "why would they want to come here?". Maybe they saw how we react more to the death of a lion then to the deaths of people and thought "f*ck it". Though given it is set up by the natives of the country and the guy dropped 60 k for the elephant hunt I'm guessing they are doing it in a way because they are starving. Just not starving to eat elephant meat, but whatever that 60 k can buy.
That is why for me if people want to pick out an enemy in all this..someone or something to be pissed at..go for the people that set up these hunts, usually with a lot of help from natives.
I guess the true answer is some people enjoy the hunt. I'm betting it's not the specific killing of the animal, but the stalking of it. Maybe for them it's a bit like they are conquering nature or the animal kingdom.
At the end of the day I ask..is it hurting anyone? The elephant killed was like 60 years old, so not like it didn't live a long life. I'm sure the country benefits more from that 60 grand then it does by having one extra elephant walking around.
But the way people act as if these guys pulled some ideas from that movie with Ice T where the guys hunt homeless people in the woods for fun.

The problem with elephant hunting, especially if it isn't sustainable, is that killing them can be a slippery slope when there's lots of illegal poaching going on on the side. Also, elephants do benefit their countries more alive than dead. I'm going to bet you that they make more money off non-hunting safaris than they do off hunting safaris.

But then if what you say is true why wouldn't they go the route of making as much money as possible?
One has to imagine since illegal poaching is a thing..this would be taken into consideration when choosing which animals to hunt.
But again if the elephant helps more by being alive then I once again return to the "blame those in the country setting this shit up" line of thought. Who is going to know more about how the hunt effects the country, the people who live there and set up the hunt or some dude from another country?
Remember the elephant was like 60 years old, I doubt they could of made 60 grand off of it by keeping it alive before it died of natural causes.

Both are to blame. You cannot willingly ignore the consequences of your actions just because some native jerk wants to get a quick buck. You're partly responsible of what you finance with your money.
