MID-HERALD TOURNAMENT DISCUSSION

Props to LoB for using Hittites in a sentence, even if was just for the suffix

Got a question. Don't seem to harp on anyone's BZ but with Blair character, would growing be considered amping?

BW'sopener wss no surprise. Pretty much everything i expected.

Gotta say though I'm gonna steal some of those scans, I've used Nth metal a lot in tourneys to do the whole Synn thing as well as in a street/low meta level tourney as armor against just abiut any type of energy attack and I've only used/seen 3/4 of of those scans

Yeah, that tactic is used/attempted aaaaallll the time. Frankly it's a little boring, I expect more creative nonsense from BW... Clearly he's just phoning this in.

It's the legality issue brought up early in the tournament. PG offered to allow all forms of amping, or ban it all. But there was not enough input to make a decision so the rules remained as is.

So is what BW doing legal? Short answer yes.
Is it a form of amping? Short answer yes.

Blair and dector looks promising...conducting their battle as gentlemen

It falls under the Jeffries/Adamantium rule, so it's not banned per the amping rules, as I would interpret them, at least. It's a clever tactic, especially paired with Pym. It's not without answers, of course. But a strong combo.

Well... sortof.

Perhaps this is best to happen in-debate, but I would argue that Jeffries/Adamantium allows for an extension of existing Adamantium properties - Wolverine and Jeffries get the same basic value out of Adamantium. Hank/Creel get different powers from Nth Metal than Hawkman does, which I would think falls within the spirit of 'amping'- controlling fundamental forces isn't a natural extension of either Hank's or Hawkman's powers.

If this line of argument is better pursued in a match, I can do so if/when I face Blair. I just thought I'd bring it up as long as we were commenting on legality in this thread.

👆

Seems reasonable to deal with it in-match or through official rulings; whichever is decided. My opinion certainly isn't definitive, of course. It just came up and I thought I'd weigh in.

It's not like it wasn't foreseeable, though. I was invoking the Jeffries rule to warn everyone about what Creel could do along these lines in the previous tournament. I'm actually surprised it took this long to come up, given all the redrafts we had.

I assume you guys have options either way, though. No strategy is foolproof.

Pretty sure it didn't come up in the last tourney because everyone could see it's clearly amping in a non-amping tournament.

PG ruled that materials were not allowed to give participants powers they could not access by themselves.

Same as Abhilegend's question: your power isn't growing after amalgamation, even if the power is within you to access. That's not to say that you don't have reserves that are then stripped of your character like say Captain Atom. He just can't go past what he's shown on-panel within the draft cap. He can't turn into Monarch

Just don't amp.

No power growing after amalgamation, on panel showings only.

Growing isn't banned as an amp - he has Pym, after all.

I honestly thought amping was still banned

Everyone here thought the same......PG flat out stated it was banned.

IMHO, if someone picks the superpower of growing bigger this isn't an amp, it's his powerset, which was considered when the char was placed in a tier list.

Regardless of powerset, growing to geometrically increase the strength/power of another character. If Blair had Pym, Storm, and Professor X then he should def be allowed to grow because he's just using Pym'of strength/powerset in doing so, but the way he's doing it is no different than using Ray to increase Supes's powers, which was specifically banned. That type of thing is the whole reason I was going to withdraw until it was made clear that type of amping is barred. Pym's shrinking/control of ants are fine, but growing like this is amping.

Bumping the rules
