How do Kanan and Ezra not know Darth Vader?

Ezra knew who Jabba the Hutt was, how did he not know the Emperors top enforcer. Plus Kanan should know him for sure as he travels around the galaxy.

It's just a disparity. Filoni is under the impression that Vader is a shadowy figure who isn't a public figure (he talks about this in one interview which I can't find right now).
