This x1000000Peace Walker was really good, but it doesn't compare to the majority of the main entries.
Most people make the argument that MGS3 has a better story and narrative, while Peace Walker has funner gameplay and more stuff to do.
Plus, Peace Walker is important to MGSV's story.

Snake Eater. Peace Walker has better controls on HD Collection, hundreds of weapons and a gameplay of 80 hours+ if you count the Extra Ops. But MGS3 has better graphics, story, characters, overall gameplay and boss fights. So MGS3 is overall a better game IMO.
You're the first I've seen to say that MGS3 has better gameplay.

And with how sparce MGSV's story was, it needed some other entry to pick up the slack.

No it's not. It almost always between MGS3 and MGS1.
Recently played both.
Snake Eater is much better.
Peacewalker has bad boss fights, all just pretty boring bullet sponge bosses.
The levels are small and copy-pasted.
And then there's the story, which while good in Peacewalker is no where near as incredible as Snake Eater.
So yeah, Snake Eater is substantially better.
Peacewalker was a good game, though. I enjoyed it and it's pretty much required to get the most out of MGSV.
