It's not false at all. The FF4 are nothing like the power Batman/Superman have in terms of iconic status and how well they are known around the world to both comic and non comic fans. It's piss poor reviews by most and the money it failed to make after the huge budget and marketing it had made it a flop.

Doesn't seem like a flop to me. Underperforming expectations? Sure, no effing doubt there. People expected the film to easily make over a billion on name recognition alone and it failed to do that.
The film was a horrific turd (imo), but money earned is money earned.

Yeah, BVS didn't flop. It made a good amount domestic and little in China where it only gets 25 percent back.
