Why does Russia need secret nuclear armed drone subs?
Well, that's the stupidity of arms races in a nutshell. There are only two responses to an arms race. First, embrace it, and spend all your money on increasingly ingenious but expensive weapons, second, give up and hope your opponent is prepared to deescalate.
Russia has a problem. Every time America builds missile defenses, no matter who they say the defenses are intended for (lately North Korea and Iran have been the alleged targets) Russia assumes that the defenses are aimed at nullifying Russia's nuclear deterrent so it starts doubling down on bigger, badder weapons. This is all because Russia has no hope of ever closing the conventional military gap with NATO (or China, for that matter).
"Some secret information did indeed end up in front of the camera lenses, so it was later deleted," Russian spokesman Dmitri Peskov was quoted by Interfax as saying. "We hope this won’t happen again.
Not sure I buy that, that's some serious incompetence right there. Seems more likely that it was purposely leaked, to what end though.

It only shows incompetence because whoever let it "slip" forgot to put a picture of a shirtless putin on the front of the drone to show how strong it is and that it means biz!
