Most Hot Fuzz fans these days are ones who grew up with the movie, and they're unable to see past their nostalgia and childhood attachments and judge the movie with a critical eye. It's full of plot holes, inconsistencies, terrible dialogue, unfunny and inappropriate "humor", wooden acting, lazy camerawork and cinematography, unlikable characters, and is completely soulless and flat in emotion and tone. Adult HF fans are either terminally blind to the rose-tint in their fanboy goggles, or are functionally retarded.
Pegg struck gold with Shaun of the Dead, but he grew lazy and greedy as he got older, and his addiction to just stuffing every frame with as many SFX in Hot Fuzz (and The World's End, to be fair), is just ridiculous. He didn't seem to understand what made the first movie in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy so beloved.

The whole reason he said that is because the Prequels suck in his opinion though. Not respecting him because of his opinion is committing the same "crime" as he is. That it's not respecting him based upon his judgement of people instead of movies doesn't change the fact that its the same sentiment of judging someone because of their personal opinions.
