Chuck Norris vs The FDA

Who wins?

http://naturalsociety.com/chuck-norris-takes-action-against-fdas-gm-salmon/The martial artist and action star, Chuck Norris, noted for his role in films like Return of the Dragon, and the television series, Walker, Texas Ranger, is taking his action to a whole new level with recent commentary on the FDA’s approval of GM salmon. He says he certainly won’t be eating the GM fish.

In a remarkably observant commentary on AquaBounty’s GM salmon being given the go-ahead by what some would call one of America’s biggest adversary, the FDA, he states [1]:

“Is it just me, or do you also see a big difference between something being ‘generally recognized as safe,’ and something being ‘safe’?

Alison Van Eenennaam, a biotechnology specialist at the University of California, Davis, was part of the AquaBounty Technologies scientific evaluation and states that ‘nothing in the data suggested that these fish were in any way unsafe.’

What about dangers to human health that are not anticipated by this particular scientific evaluation? Or the long-term impacts that introducing new, hybrid species could have on the environment, in ways that are unpredictable?

I won’t be eating GMO fish, if and when it’s available. I’m not alone. In 2013, a New York Times poll found that three-quarters of Americans would not eat genetically modified fish. An earlier 2010 poll by NPR found that 65 percent of respondents said they wouldn’t try such fish. Following the FDA announcement, more than 60 grocery store chains have promised not to sell the fish.”
Norris agrees with Scott Faber, the executive director of Just Label It, who argues that the FDA’s lack of labeling requirements outdated policies continue to keep consumers in the dark about what they are eating.

Writer made a critical and unacceptable error! Norris was in 'Way of The Dragon' (1972), not 'Enter the Dragon' (1973)

Bruce kicks his hairyback ass in

😂

Chuck Norris sure is passionate about Salmon. I'm guessing years ago a Salmon ruthlessly killed his family or his sparring partner or his dog. Or god forbid all three.

Though seriously just put a damn label on the fish, why is this so difficult?

If that's all the anti-GMO crowd wants is a label, label it.

Seems like a no brainer, the only argument against is "Well, we'd really like to sell more by being deceptive"...

It would not deter me from buying it, that's for sure.

I might buy it just because Chuck Norris told me not to. Please Chuck don't tell us not to become hooked on heroin, I can't put all my money towards trying to spite you.

It's beyond me how Momsanto still exists with a liberal administration for 8 years..

Interesting comment to make, TI.

But the answer likely is money and the lobbyist money can buy.

I would praise undying loyalty to Obama is he ever ended them. But we all know that ain't happening.

Is there any danger of live GMO fish threatening natural ones or food balance if they're accidentally introduced to the wild?

They'd transfer their GMO genes to the fingerlings.

**** Dupont and Monsato, How can anyone in their right minds support them?

I know the real reason Chuck is mad. Genetically modified fish? Soon it will be genetically modified people, stronger and faster then Norris could ever be. It will bring him to tears, he'll be held up in his house watching "Sidekicks" nonstop.

My main problem with the FDA is that they think weed is just as bad as heroine and somehow much worse than alcohol or tobacco.

As far as the GMO thing goes, label it, study it, let people make their own choices.

Wait they didn't seriously say this? Or at least tell me they said it..but way back in the 1940's.

Otherwise how do people who you assume are intelligent say these things and then keep their job?

Worse then heroin is hilarious, thinking it's worse then booze or cigs is just downright pathetic. I swear this is just one of a number of reasons people can't take this country seriously. It's actually quite embarrassing, it might not be a huge issue, but damn if it doesn't just make everyone look stupid.

The US should do what the UK did and review all the drugs, with professionals (medical doctors, family counselors, etc.), to determine which drugs should be made legal for personal use and which should be illegal.

Set the cut off at alcohol: anything worse than alcohol, make it illegal. 🙂

Since I know the results of that delphi-method publishment, alcohol ranked like 70 or something out of 100. Ahead of many hard drugs. MJ ranked like 20...hilariously but not unexpected.

Oh, and about Monsanto: if they didn't do so much to hurt the little farmers out there, I'd be okay with them. I might even support them. It's like...they are an evil comic book corporation.

A friend of mine once came across microfilm of a Monsanto advertisement from the 1920s....it featured black sharecroppers. 😐

I think Monsanto = Abstergo

The problem with this is I assume we hire professionals at the FDA and yet..they still apparently think weed is worse then booze and heroin.

Which no thinking rational person could ever believe, so I have to believe that they knew they were spouting bullshit and still spouted it anyways. Thus I don't know if I'd trust any doctors or others to give us the truth if the FDA won't. Especially if it's a study funded by the government. They have been lying to us for decades about the dangers of weed.
