But why would we hear about it more when since didn't exist before. Its only now that we are hearing about it because its actually happening. When did 700-1000 women get raped and sexually assaulted before?

Yes if people are having their kids taken away due to being against this type of behavior that is HUGE and a game changer. That is something where if true then everyone who is in office right now needs to be somehow removed permanently.

I think banning all migrants is unfair towards the well behaved migrants, and does nothing to help with integration, likely breeding resentment on both sides.

I have not heard of something like this happening in my town. We do have a lot of asylum seekers here, though I haven't really seen huge numbers, and you can't really tell whether someone's an asylum seeker or not just from looking at them here.
