You see to me any group of people that need to be told things like "don't beat kids or molest people" is just made entirely of fail.
What ends up happening, with thinking like this, is there is no moral high-ground. It is a slippery slope. You end up with higher and higher (or seemingly higher) moral standards. Someone may look at your believe in incarceration and think, "Wow, all of that people are just made of fail."
Then someone may look at that person's culture and observe that they eat meat. Then they will say, "Oh. Wow. People who slaughter sentient beings and eat them are made of fail."
Then someone may look at that person's culture and observe that they eat only plants. Then they will say, "Oh. Wow. People who slaughter natural life, instead of synthesizing from inorganic materials, are made of fail."
And THEN someone who observes that person's culture and finds that they synthesize food may say, "Oh. Wow. People who synthesize all of their food are disrespecting all the animals and plants around them by not consuming them. That culture is made of fail."
No way to win. So it is best to not say an entire culture is made of fail because you disagree with this or that. They probably think some things about your culture is atrocious and disgusting, too.
