According to some guys on Comicvine, Maul admitting inferiority to Vader was only a ruse to keep the Jedi on the planet, and not because Vader is actually better.

Proof Vader can beat Maul in a duel when Vader struggled with an aged Kenobi, when Maul has tons more dueling feats?
