World Press Ranking

The world ranking for freedom of information has been updated.

All in all freedom of information is on the way down.

Canada and the UK are down, no surprise there.

States are up 8 slots, and Costa Rica (??) are up 10.

Thoughts?

It's disheartening to see Canada, the UK, and the US so(relatively) low.

Lol at Eritrea being below North Korea. Now that's an achievement in and of itself.

W-Why is Japan so low?

Abe is cracking down on media.

Poland shit the bed. Down 29, damn.

What exactly does this mean. Are you talking about the amount of people who requested information and were denied? What falls under the purview of a freedom of information ranking?

Poland recently elected a new party to lead and said party really clamped down on freedom of press.

I was actually asking that question about the topic in general. Is this just freedom of the press or freedom of information, because those are two different things right?

It reflects the degree of freedom that journalists, news organizations, and netizens enjoy in each country, and the efforts made by the authorities to respect and ensure respect for this freedom.

Incidentally here is an article on Japan.
