Anyway, some of my favorite examples of comic book art have always been the painted covers from the 50s-60s. The covers from Solar's Gold Key series are a great example:

Great post. Personally I feel that cover art sets the mood for the book. It's the first thing you look for when walking down an aisle. Your right though. I love that pulp noir feel of old books. It annoys me when newer generations can't appreciate the classics.
