Why were the Dumb and Dumber films so poorly received?

I personally love all three movies.

They were some of the funniest movies I can think of, as far as silly comedies go.

Never seen the prequel, but as for the original and third...
first of all, Jim Carrey.
Second, the movies are called Dumb and Dumber/Dumb and Dumber To. You pretty much know what you're signing up for.

wasn't aware the first movie was poorly received. I thought it was darn near universally loved.

never watched the other two... for the same reason i will never watch Anchorman 2 or Zoolander 2.

The second film is close to unwatchable

The two with Jim carrey and Jeff Daniels are hilarious. The first one being the best, imo.

The Critics of the Era panned all over it. Did great with audiences thou. But the Gen Pop pretty much knew it was going to be a Full on 3 Stooges romp.

Things are kind of reversed then when they used to be in the 90's.

I hate all 3 of the movies. I just found Jim Carey obnoxious as f*ck in the first one. Just like he was obnoxious as "Ace Ventura" and it just ruins the film.

I prefer his 90's films like The Mask or Liar Liar.

Haven't seen the prequel.

DaD and DaDT were great, though shocklaugh So much more fun than Jackass 3D that failed big time.

Jackass was a horrible tv show.

TV show was significantly better than the movie. It was for pussies, though.

DaD series are some of greatest movies ever made.

Critics *laughs*. Ever meet a critic? Back in my school days of working theaters, I met my share.. They're odd, to say the least.

If you know Linkara, they made him seem cool.

Didn't like the sequel, love the first one but didn't bother with the prequel

I laughed so hard with those few laughs in the sequel.

I loved Rob Riggle's camouflage reveals. That shit was awesome!
