Remember when there used to be hidden characters too, like MK1 Reptile, and so forth? Gone are those days now as well.
I'll still get this if I see enough characters I like on the base roster, especially if it happens to not put all its eggs in the Batman basket again. I like to think I'd be helping by not preordering for Darkseid just on principle, but you know there'll be more than enough people that'll eat up that preorder regardless.
The preorder stuff for MK9 and the first Inj was alright since it was just extra skins, but taking out a full character unless you preorder/pay is just a scummy way to punish those who don't get the game on day 1. I suppose I'd still pay 5 bucks for Darkseid though over however much a movie ticket is now to see a Zack Synder interpretation of him. lol Still, someone as high profile as Darkseid ought to be main antagonist without a 2nd thought, as opposed to being treated as some popular sideshow extra like Goro.
Ra's al Ghul was hinted in the first trailer, so it's either him or Regime Superman again as the main baddie, far as the clues we've been given thus far.
So the leak was true after all. Yuck.
I'm surprised they brought Bane back. He only got into the first one due to Dark Knight Rises hype and I remember his announcement being met with a resounding 'meh' even when the game was out he was one of the least used characters both online and in tournament play. He didn't even have a big role in the story. You'd think this time they would have went with Killer Croc as the big and strong Batman villain.
And I'm also surprised that it looks like Martian Manhunter won't be in considering the backlash NRS got for that including him on the base roster in the first game. He was so heavily requested there that Boon left him off the DLC poll because he already knew that he would win.
Bane was one of the more enjoyable Batman characters for me (I'll take another superpowered dude over another street level character), though he was pretty low tier due to his lack of approach options which was why he generally wasn't used as much as others. Agreed on Martian Manhunter though, but even then, him being in the first Inj wasn't that memorable. How late in the game he was added may have had to do with it, but meh.

Assuming the posted leak is true, Scarecrow isn't really a surprise after Poison Ivy (what with Arkham Knight happening), nor is the Joker because he's Joker. With the lack of Red Hood listed, I can only assume he'll be an alt of one of the other characters like Power Girl presumably is and such, in which case, I'm glad he's not taking up a spot on the roster as well. I'm curious as to how Scarecrow will play as a character with his fear toxin. At least more of the Batman characters this time will be unique, even if there is still a bit too many. Fellas like Black Canary, Swamp Thing, Firestorm, Captain Cold, and Dr Fate is still progress though far as diversity's concerned.
The lack of Ra's al Ghul is odd however. He was not only alluded to in the first trailer, but I believe that was his voice from Arkham City talking in the recent trailer.
My biggest peeve is a number of beloved characters in the first game that were omitted, but I guess it was to be expected to an extent. Either they didn't have time to add back everyone planned with the schedule WB had them on, or they're testing the waters by leaving out certain veterans (seeing how much they're wanted back when they're gone, etc). Either way, can't deny that having some characters who didn't make the cut originally is an effective way to keep demand alive for additional characters in a sequel or a game after that.
But even with that said... I don't think I'll be getting any of the season passes and such this time. Doesn't seem worth it anymore with how much DLC this will have long run. I'll just buy the few or couple characters in between that particularly appeal to me, even if it means biting the bullet and giving 5 bucks for Darkseid. IDK
Pleasantly surprised that my man Black Adam is back at least, out of the veterans listed on the leak.
I don't know. We're still months away from release. Things could change, that list may not be all accurate or remain so, etc.
