The Thing, the John Carpenter version. One of the rare 80's movies where the special effects still hold up. In some ways I think CGI has made people lazy. Not that it doesn't take a lot of work, but they'd rather do that as opposed to building this stuff. When they did the prequel to The Thing in 2011 all the special effects were created without using CGI(just like in the Carpenter version) but after that the studio decided to replace a lot of the practical effects with CGI.
