They aren't mutually exclusive. Agen Kolar and Saesee Tiin are supposedly some of the best fighters of all time but they were non-factors against Sidious. The strike team that went up against Vitiate in SWTOR were some of the most powerful fighters in the galaxy but they were non-factors.
