Volunteer Work

It's the same as charity on principle, just giving away time instead of money.

That doesn't explain the principle. Say, volunteers-volunteer to pick up trash from a highway, they spend several days picking it up. The next day people litter the same area. Sure you fixed a temporary problem, but the long time problem is still there.
Given the futile nature of volunteer work , what compels people to do it?

For almost two years (early 2013 to late 2014) I volunteered at a charity organisation that helps provide people with a range of disabilities, primarily developmental ones, opportunities to do work in the local community. The specific part that I volunteered at was a garden centre/horticultural and landscaping business – essentially I just provided support to anyone that needed it but also generally mucked in with everyone else. I did this every Tuesday morning from 9am - 2pm, as I had work at 5pm on those days. Really rewarding work, and I met some really great and funny people. I'd like to do more one day, probably in a similar environment.

I volunteer for Age Uk. Love my job, we are like one big family and are always laughing. 🙂
