Since we assume both characters to be at their peak, that means we're taking a Kanan who is experiencing a Force Explosion which lets him stomp Maul, and Malak who with a massive nexus, star forge and Jedi juiceboxes still manages to lose to a severely sapped and weakened Revan, without any of those goodies.
Clearly Kanan is in trouble. 🙄

Only reason Vader didn't is because he likes to play with his food.

Just as well, basically all he did was push him off a cliff.
Maul was fighting evenly with Kanan and Ahsoka at the same time and even manages to blind Kanan.
This is a case of TPM Syndrome, its Maul vs TPM Kenobi all over again.

It's a case of denial, my friend. Malak gets eviscerated.
Originally posted by ILSNah, Ezra is actually hinted at as having some substantial latent force abilities as well. Not Anakin level certainly, but he's definitely got a lot more latent ability to people on here like to give him credit. His beast control showing is a good example. Hell, the fact that this kid has managed to last even ten seconds in a duel with Vader speaks volumes of his potential.
That's why Vader finds it difficult to remove a holocron from Ezra's hand, Ezra being much weaker than Kanan.Whatta joke.

Maul considered him weak, and not worth his time.
He literally thought of Kanan as a complete joke.
"I... will make this quick."
He underestimated him, as he underestimated Kenobi in TPM, and he paid for it.
Also, you're either arguing that Maul has gotten so weak and out of practice that he legit lost to Kanan, or that Kanan has gotten so good that he is better then Maul.
Both of which are wrong.
Kanan beating Maul is an anti-feat for the latter, rather than adding anything to the Jedi's repertoire.
I'm considering the possibility that Maul was out-of-shape, but he still wen't into the fight cautiously, tip toed around his opponent and got his ass handed to him. Maul being past his prime is the only angle fanatics should take, that would minimize the collateral damage to his name. In the end, beating Maul does not equate to a challenge for Malak; who is above Vader-level imo.

And yeah, I'm arguing that Kanan at his peak is someone who can slap Maul into a coma. Malak isn't, do the math.
