This is seriously annoying, because I hate the fact that Tom Cruise was cast as Jack Reacher since I am a big fan of the books and he is completely unsuitable for the character - but the trailer actually looks like a pretty decent action movie. I wasn't convinced by the first movie and really hoped they would just let it go - but now I kinda want to see this movie. 😒
^ And apparently Norman Bates was a balding, overweight middle-aged man in the book Psycho. Nothing like the young good looking Anthony Perkins in the movie......worked out in the end
Red is actually an Irishman (white man) in the Shawshank Redemption book, but Morgan Freeman played that role and that worked out too.
Which has nothing to do with the fact that Lee Child emphasises Reacher's size over and over again in his books. Every book, every confrontation and every fight mentions his size and his strength. Reacher not only relies on it - he is who he is because of it.
They have literally cast a dwarf to play a giant.

Sure, Tom is a nutjob irl, but he's a mega movie star that sells tickets.
I actually was okay with the first Jack Reacher movie; it wasn't great but was pretty solid. I'll watch this one too. I like most Tom Cruise movies, again despite his nuttiness, he's a good actor.
I've read every Reacher book, and when i heard Tom Cruise (who i am in love with) was playing him, i almost hurled.
That said, he played the hell out of the part.
Like Kazenji pointed out, things change from page to screen.
Open mind and all that. 😛
As for the sequel itself: Never Go back was a heck of a book, but had a pretty anti climactic ending. Still, there are a few GREAT scenes that i'd love to see outside my imagination.
Looking forward to this.

I'm trying my best to keep an open mind. The only solution really (for me) is to stop thinking of his character as Reacher. Since they've changed pretty much everything that made Reacher's character unique and changed him into one more Tom Cruise action figure, it actually works better for me that way. So, now I'll think of him as just some generic special skills ex-military veteran played by Tom Cruise - and that way I might even be able to enjoy the second movie. 😉
Like I said, the trailer looks pretty good so I'll definitely see it - though not on the big screen.
He played Reacher pretty straight (other than being about half his size). There were times i actually caught myself thinking "Reacher says nothing".
But hey, not trying to convert you; i can see by that 😉 you have a set opinion on the matter. Me, i came away happy with the adaptation, as i've definitely seen worse done with characters i've liked.
