That was never stated and prof x has never just turned off powers lol. He would have used that constantly then. Shaws ability seemed rather involuntary. Taking control of his mind suddenly stops his powers? Naw

Yes it did stop his powers. Magneto had just brought a metal beam down on his head as forcefully as possible and it did nothing. A slow coin still needs enough energy to get through the same as a fast coin, which is going to just get absorbed. His powers somehow got shut down or he would have been unstoppable.

Shaw goes down the same way future Colossus did. The Sentinels find their energy attacks aren't working, so they attack him physically as a group and tear him apart.

Then maybe he explodes and takes a few more with him.
