I mean, the entire premise of the first game at least is fighting against Chaos so he doesn't warp the myriad universes into his chaotic image, with Chaos later deciding to destroy all of existence (though he required aid from Shinryuu to do that).

Cosmos and Chaos were basically selfish pricks who invited uninvolved heroes and villains into their dispute.
