Why is Mace such a mediocre force user?

He has no good showings of barrier, can't use force lightning, has no knowledge of Sith Sorcery, no good showings of weather manipulation, can't use tutaminus. Did his master train him only to be a guardian and a Jedi with a Lightsaber? Does Mace have a handicap that only enables him to be good with a saber? Why does Mace have hardly any variety with his force feats?

Mace is overrated.
