Aren't American prisons obligated to provide food for their prisoners?
In Scandinavian prisons the prison cells either have individual kitchens or there's a shared kitchen for a small group of inmates with groceries they want delivered to them. Right to food is a human right, and when prisoners have to trade food then there's something wrong.

I understand providing food for prisoners, but when you say "they" get the food they want delivered are you saying that the inmates essentially get to decide what they want to eat?
I'm not saying don't feed them, but screw letting them dictate what they eat.

You go to prison as punishment, not for punishment.
Okay I can see making an exception for people with allergies. However, I feel prison IS the punishment. So for example if some criminal is thinking "damn I have a taste for a steak tonight" I would say "yeah no".
Since you see, one of the punishments for doing whatever landed him in jail is the lack of the nice things in life. It is the lack of access to your favorite foods, etc. It's a lack of freedom, including the freedom to eat whatever you please.
What's more important to you? An undignified treatment of prisoners, or safe streets and cost-effective prisons?
Because the United States of America has a recidivism rate of 70%—that means that the majority of the criminals released will go back to jail—while Nordic countries have recidivism rates around 20%.

Because if you treat prisoners like animals that's what you will end up releasing back into society. You go to prison as punishment, not for punishment.
The US penal system has yet to realize this despite the evidence. Where we have a non violent person go in for selling large doses of marrijuana, and they come out 5 years later to then commit violent crimes. We have one of the highest, if not the highst recidivism rates in the world. Edit: you covered it
Our entire penal system needs to be revamped.

Yeah nope. Not letting prisoners choose to eat whatever they want isn't, nor will it ever be, undignified.
