He was confirmed to be toying with Finn, enjoying the fight. Finn could perhaps do better with this equipement (mind the "perhaps"😉 but Kylo can destroy him whenever he wants to like in TFA.
Yeah, Finn stomps him in seconds with his baton and shield.
Its because he was using an unfamiliar weapon.

By the time Finn dueled Kylo he had already used the weapon so he's obviously more familiar with it then.
He's used it once, and the only time he did use it was against someone he had previously stomped in seconds.
That same person beats him solidly while Finn uses a lightsaber.

Ren was toying with him, even injured and distressed. Giving him those weapons sure makes it closer, but Ren still wins.

I don't think its fair to even compare them as combatants.

Ren still has the Force. The fact that he was toying with him meant he was playing around with his lightsaber, literally. He could've ragdolled at any moment had he truly wanted to end the fight.

Jmanghanman trying to find ways to lowball Kylo, I see...
You have the highest praise for Finn that I've seen on KMC.
Finn stomps a guy who beats him when Finn uses a saber.
To me, that translates to being an unfair comparison to Finn using a saber.
REGARDLESS if Kylo was holding back, Finn stomped a guy who beat him solidly with a saber in seconds.
Are you referring to Finn's first duel, and rematch, with Nines/TR-8R?
That isn't a fair comparison because: Nines already gave Finn a good fight while they were both in the First Order, Nines was enraged at Finn's traitorous ways, and this was Finn's first time using a lightsaber.
He swung it twice and was not yet used to it's specific design and his relative unfamiliarity simply was too much of a handicap. When he fought Kylo, he already had a feel for the weapon -- at least, a better feel than the one he had with Nines.
And finally: while Finn was original driven back, he re-took the initiative against Nines fairly quickly until Nines "knocked him off his feet" with an unarmed strike. Even the Junior novelisation notes this:
Finn swung at him, but the trooper ducked and shoved Finn backward, off his feet. The trooper had raised his baton to finish Finn when a blaster bolt finished the trooper instead.
