Should we have assassinated Osama bin Laden?

This thread is inspired by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein's remarks on how she would not have ordered an operation to kill bin Laden, rather she would have attempted to capture him and bring him to trial, citing her beliefs that assassinations are against international law. Do you agree with this, or do you believe bin Laden should have been assassinated, and why or why not? Remember to vote in the poll!

If the US thinks they are going to fool the American people with this, then they really think their citizens are completely ignorant. And a sea burial to boot. If someone believes this, then its quite sad.

It would have been nice if we could have captured him alive- but if the tactical situation of the moment necessitated that killing him was the only way to avoid loss of life on the Seal's side, then so be it.

It's important to remember that at the end of the day, Bin Laden was an enemy combatant. Thus, killing outright hardly counts as an assassination within the context of legality.

The photo proves otherwise though, its plain as day to see the photoshop job to make the final death photo.

Don't waste money on a trial, I support the fact they put him down.

Unless we legitimately thought maybe he wasn't guilty. But otherwise? I'd rather my tax dollars go to killing him as opposed to going to giving him 3 meals a day in jail.

I'm fairly certain the CIA knew where he was long before Bush left the white house. Obama desperately needed a pick me up though so he probably gave the order. All in all, well played Barry!

Also, those debating whether or not we should have killed him as opposed taking him alive, you probably need lives. You have psychos questioning that while other psychos are happy when left/right wing advocates die.

If what you say is true then he is probably dead by now anyways. They've had years to torture/waterboard him for information, so you'd think by now they would of gotten all they could out of him.
