Chris Avellone has no authority over the ancient Sith(he didn't make them); and he doesn't know anything about them. Heck, he admitted that he knew shit about KotOR I.
That's nothing more but an opinion of his own(and Traya's), not something established in the EU's lore.
Now if he would have created the ancient Sith; he would have been righted to make such a statement(opinion)
Not to mention that Chris's no diehard geek. Well, no writer is.
Even he has his 'Lucas' moments.
