All of the founders were deeply religious people. They were not against religion in any way.

In fact, they recognized that our individual, inherent rights come from God, not the government and that the government is merely supposed to protect those rights, not grant them.

But yeah, liberalism in the classical sense is not the same thing as what modern day leftists represent.

I am actually probably much closer to being a classical liberal than modern day leftists are and I'm a conservative lol.

The founding fathers were primarily deists and specifically were worried about the churches oppressive power and wrote the constitution to protect individuals natural rights, not necessarily god given.

An example of the founding fathers not believing in god the same way you do is thomas jefferson rewriting the bible without all the supernatural elements, as an anthology of moral parables.

No, they were mostly Christian. They absolutely believed in the supernatural God of the Bible and they recognized that our rights come from God. I know you atheists hate admitting it but it's the truth.

I suppose next you'll try arguing that they believed in evolutionary nonsense and that the world, human beings, and the universe came into being without a supernatural Creator which would be another blatant lie. They talked about a divine Creator on numerous occasions.

One of the primary reasons they came here was so that they could be free to practice whatever religion they wanted.

When you say the "oppression of the church" you must be talking about the Roman Catholic Church which I fully agree was oppressive back then but Roman Catholicism is not true biblical Christianity.

Yes, as parts of Europe moved beyond the need for religion, many people who still needed it did indeed move to the US. You even invented your own. 👆

Thomas Paine was a huge critic of Christianity.

That's what I hate with Dominionist zealots like you. You act as though everyone who isn't an Abrahamist is an Atheist Anarchist, which is bullshit. Also, you say God must be some supernatural magician, yet there are many, such as Baruch Spinoza, who disagree with interpretation and offer far wiser views of the Divine.

And America's purpose was/is to create a home for BOTH religious and secular freethinkers, rather than dictators and theocrats. Unfortunately, that freethinking was meant to be EMPIRICAL, whereas many Americans think it means IGNORANCE
