I might agree with you, but I actually thought they got better and better. The 1st was a turd, and the 2nd was less of a turd (but still a turd), then I thought they actually found their footing with the 3rd one. It was a stroke of genius to bring in Mel Gibson as the villain and the final climax scene was fun.

For me it was always that nagging thought, "If only they did this 20+ plus years ago..."
The other factor I didn't like was that it was pretty obvious most of the stars had contractual obligations elsewhere.
It was more of the case of X-actor can only commit to 2 days of filming, let's put a gun in his hands, kill some random bad guys, let him wave & nod to the rest of the cast (off camera) then move on. There was some pretty bad editing to make this look convincing.

These movies are for people who were action stars, but never "real actors" and are circling the drain of irrelevancy.
Pacino is the only one who might do it, because he does shitty movies these days. Same reason i think Liam Neeson would do it.
