Best -specific type of prequel- movies

I find movies where we know the protagonist ends up becoming an antoginist and/or comes to a bad end strangely fascinating.
Two that come to mind are:

•Phantom Menace (good movie or not, seeing Anakin as a bright hopeful happy child was kinda heartbreaking)

•The Scorpion King where he wonders what the future holds as he stands victorious, unaware that a few bad choices down the line would screw him for eternity.

Not sure if there's a specific term for that type of movie other than prequel, if there is pls lemme know, and cite more examples.

Seeing The Hobbit whilst knowing what lays in store for Bilbo in the Middle-Earth Peter Jackson built was interesting even if it was stretched beyond what the story could support.

Well, one of my all-time favorite movies follows the opposite template...

Richard B. Riddick is the hard criminal that everyone is afraid of, but ultimately becomes somewhat redeemed and saves the remaining survivors. And then a great anti-hero is born.

...maybe if you watch the movies in reverse?

Good one!

A friend suggested Maleficent. I think thats a good example.

I don't think there are very many prequels specifically made to play out a main character's downfall to evil, unless of course they start doing more super hero villain movies like the Venom movie that has supposedly been in the works for quite some time. But a couple more characters did come to mind...

Jack Torrence from The Shining.

Harvey Dent from The Dark Knight.

Yeah, not what i was thinking of, Leach; both great characters though.

Thanks Riv.

Maleficent is indeed a good example. A pleasant surprise from Disney in 2014, and one that made some, IMO, good changes to the Sleeping Beauty mythos.
