Non-Binary Gender Identities with Binary Languages
So in the past few years, numerous people in the transgendered community have claimed "non-binary" gender identities, and this has lead to several of those people and sympathizers protesting a portion of the current English language, feeling that there should be gender neutral pronouns or gendered pronouns that conform to something other than male and female, like xe and zir and stuff like that. This has stirred up quite a bit of controversy within the United States, however that isn't what this topic is about.
My question is how people pushing for these gender neutral pronouns in the English language would deal with a language that is entirely gender binary, such as spanish, where every noun and pronoun is either male or female with no exceptions at this point, even for things like tables and computers and libraries.
Would they accept the binary gendering of the nouns and pronouns in the language even in reference to people claiming to have a non-binary gender identity? Would they demand that a primary staple of such a language be altered at that specific point, arguably perverting the nature of the language at one specific point, even when it remains for gender neutral subjects like chairs and computers? Or would they attack the underlying nature of the language itself as being something that propagates the notion that gender is binary and declare the nature of the language itself transphobic against non-binary identities? And how could they reconcile the latter of these two options this with the desire to not appear racist if they conflate attacks on culture and ideology with attacks on race?
I feel like this would be a non-binary SJW's worst nightmare, since they'd either have to leave the language alone and admit defeat and allow what in their eyes is a form of transphobia, or they'd have to take upon themselves the impossible task of challenging the underlying structure of an entire language while also appearing racist or culturally insensitive by their own ideological perspective.
