Ya the trailer makes it basically seem like X-Men: The Last Stand with the young cast:
- Xavier goes to find Jean and train her to use her powers
- Something goes awry due to Jean's Phoenix personality coming out
- Magneto thinks he can teach Jean better and Charles is a dummy
- Magneto gets a mutant crew vs Charles' mutant crew
- Big finale where Jean transforms into Phoenix and then has to be stopped
- Somewhere along the way, at least one main character will die (Prof X in Last Stand, prolly Quicksilver due to his lack of screen presence in the trailer)
Why Fox (besides Deadpool and Logan) has always stuck with this plot formula of "Wolverine fighting his past while Charles and Erik battle for future of mutant kind while Mystique plays way too big of a role", I don't know. It worked really well for X-Men, X2, and should've been concluded with DoFP (the perfect ending point for that arc), but they've rode that plotline until now, the end of the X-Men Fox-verse.
Hopefully it will be a good watch, as I liked Apoc even with all its flaws.

My lord. One of the nerds was actually crying in the audience after watching the trailer.
