I heard it was because people poo'poo'ed it cause at the time it was still a "Silly Comic Book Movie" but then it did pretty good on dvd sales and somehow Gui talked them into risking a sequel.

I have Hellboy 2 on dvd and have listened to the commentary many times and yep, the reason a sequel got made is because it made a lot of money on dvd sales, etc.

Hm... I watched some of Hellboy 2 again the other day and I don't think it's nearly as good as the first film. But I'd still like to see a 3rd film to round out the trilogy. I would expect them to go into some of that darker, apocalyptic territory with his horns fully erect. lol
