Why Revan dueled echani?

Why Revan woudl expose himself ina personnal dual to just duel the ecchanni champion? Couldn't he have just back stab him with the sheer lot of assassin's and assination method he have at his disposal, instead to I don't know expose himself to a republic trap (yhea we shoudl retcon the fluff and say that is how bastilia get on Revan flagship.)

But I have a theory for that, Revan wanted to keep the republic united, when it will one day fall under his boot, echanni is a warrior culture, backstabbing Yusanis is not honorable, dueling him like he did with mandaloire, is however an honorable option, and beatingtheir champion, is wellit is partially getting their aliegeance.....

DO you agree with this theory?

Don't rememebr wich épisode is it, but hey, gnost dural say that Vitiate made a big show of his fleet to some republic scouting ship, and destroyed them just after they broadcasted the immage and then the senate was well, hey guys, do you want to put your fleet and local military away in donation to the republci army? It is say that Revan assassinated a lot of eprosn to keepo republic stability and it is also said in the original KotOR that Yusanis was one of them. Note the term assinated, well KotOR II hint some time at a duel between Revan and yusanis, but it is mostly said and admited that Revan assassinated him.
