You have to read my last two statements combined, Qui-Gon was considered an extraordinary talented Jedi during a time when the most skilled Jedi Swordsmen ever lived. That's what makes the statement impressive in the first place.
Then again, I'm not an expert on Qui-Gon nor on the TOR era so the basis of my arguments aren't entirely correct.
