IMDB's messageboards are closing down

http://www.imdb.com/board/announcement

"IMDb is the world’s most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb’s message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb’s message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic....."

I must say, I find this disappointing. IMDB is a public board where you could discuss about individual movies that you enjoyed. No gimmicks or difficulties, easy to navigate and access. The best boards were the 2001: A Space Odyssey & Mulholland Drive, and it was populated by lengthy discussions by passionate cinephiles.

Of course, IMDB did have its flaws with the boards being unmoderated and the influx of trolls (the worst kind) on the Politics board etc.

But in terms of simpleness and convenience, its going to be difficult to emulate.

I am surprised that msgbs still exist at ALL in this time period to be honest.

It was quite an effective way to find comments and replies on the boards for individual films a great source of information and thought, if nothing else.

Nothing worse than a dead MB.

On one hand, I often go on IMDb's message boards to see opinions on weird film twists and get more info on less-known films.

On the other hand, every thread usually has at least one person saying that they hope anyone that likes the film in question dies in a car crash and that their family gets cancer.

So I'm kind of split on this.

Haha, i love those guys. 😆

In other words IMDB needs better moderation. With that many users you can't just go half way with a forum. It has to be all in. I should know, I was once a scientist.

What field of science did I study? Science.

I know! I just came from there!

I am also from imdb. Something tells me there will be a lot more traffic here now. 😍

Hey! Wow, there are a lotta people from there? I hope so!

How did you guys find this place from there

I searched for something on the board and it came up.

Well glad you're here, kmc needs more Christina B's
