Just watched this. Was pretty good I thought. It has some good, some bad, but all in all a solid movie. Miles better than Ayer's version, though that's not difficult. And Robbie was finally the Harley she was supposed to be all along.
People are talking again about releasing the Ayer's cut of the original film...
Not gonna surprise me if WB decides to do that.

You and I know that. But dctards believe it's their recipe for success now.
Yeah.
I do like Suicide Squad though. The first 20 mins or so, you can tell Gunn is really going ham with the "they let me make it r-rated lol", but once it settles down, there's a lot to like imo. The characters are mostly likeable, the set-pieces are well-designed... but I do not for one second believe that Gunn would do as good a job with a more "serious" movie. I wouldn't hand him a Superman or Batman film.

They can't admit they're wrong. If more people could just say "Yeah, I thought it was going to be x, but I was wrong" the world would be a better place in general.
^ I feel bad for Ayer. I hope they do let him do it if he wants to. I still doubt it would be a masterpiece film or anything, but it would no doubt be better than the turd that WB released.
So yeah, I agree that Margot was much better as Harley in this because of the better material to work with, but I still honestly kind of found her a little annoying at times. But her previous films with terrible material to work with probably influenced that.
Just some random thoughts on the film because I don't have too much time to organize it very well...
I honestly didn't think any one person "stole the show" in this movie. It was so brilliantly shared between all the characters because most of them were given their own spotlight and importance. Except maybe Milton ( 😂 poor guy).
I think some might have found parts of it boring because the film was doing what movies/scripts are supposed to do which is set up elements and character moments that will pay off later, and they did. That makes the movie more satisfying. It starts with the writing, folks. And Gunn nailed it here. With how well the script worked I'm honestly surprised there are "legitimate" critics that didn't give it a positive score. This should be 100% on RT.
I didn't have too much of the humor ruined by the trailers because I avoided the 2nd trailer that showed everything. Thank god. And honestly even when the film wasn't being conventionally comedic I found myself just laughing at the sheer absurdity of what was on screen. Haha.
The more the film has marinaded in my brain over night the more I really think it IS a work of genius and Gunn is truly a uniquely gifted auteur. It will be fun to see how it plays with repeat viewings, but I suspect it will do well. He has said it's the film he's most proud of and you can tell he was given freedom to do what he wanted, much more so than the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
The use of practical sets and effects. So glorious and much appreciated.
Get out and see this on the big screen, folks. 👆 👆

I enjoyed this movie. The first bit of the movie was not what I expected at all. Granted, I refused to watch any trailers after seeing Gunn saying on Twitter that if you didn't want to be spoiled, not to watch anything coming out after the first preview had come out. Ratcatcher 2 really became one of my favorite characters quickly. So much that happens with deaths I was not expecting at throughout the whole movie.

1) Why just now? Why the change?
2) Accurate or not, hasn't she been successful? All sluts on the planet cosplay as her version of Harley, not to mention the amount of nude "artistic" photoshoots and porn, both amateur and professional.
I'm all for comic accuracy, but this is business and I think Quinn was one of the few cogs in the DCEU machine that actually wasn't broken?
not that I'm complaining, but this is the second time I've heard a louis prima song in a dc production.

She's not an edgy try-hard that fell from a plane and crashed in to a hot topic on the way down.
Honestly though, in Ayer's Suicide Squad she just felt off, imo. She was still the best thing about the film, but that's not saying much. Her popularity was always going to be what it was, but at least now, I think she has that little bit of warmth and sweetness that she was missing that feels genuine. She has one really good monologue during the movie that just screams Harley Quinn, imo.
Birds of Prey deserves to burn in the deepest circle of hell for what they did to those characters, imo.

Agreed, Harley in the latest film was about as comic book accurate as it gets.
Or maybe Batman TAS accurate.
