OR
11 Guardians can all become serious and each one of them can over-power prime but they decide not. Instead they allow one of Guardian to become serious killing himself while the others make a circle of friendship 🙄

I liken the Guardian briefly overpowering Prime to when Beta Rey Bill decouples: he gets a huge boost of power for a brief period of time...then goes critical mass and kablooey.
Moreover, characters are typically given huge feats before they are killed- see Supergirl "almost killing" Anti-Monitor during COIE, for example. srug
I think if the other Guardians weren't there to contain the kamikaze, it would have likely killed the surrounding heroes, as a Guardian's detonation is quite violent when it's not localized like that(as we saw when the Guardian kamikaze'd against Doomsday.) I don't think they were doing anything else but containing the blast.
