Garbage argument, he's specifically noted to be on the council because of his diplomatic abilities and nothing to do with his mastery of a blade or the force.
He's still above your average master though, and definitely better than Lachris 🙂

Threats Of The Galaxy establishes that every member of the Jedi Council has to be amongst the best Jedi Masters have to offer, so logically Coleman should still be above the average Jedi Master, diplomatic abilities notwithstanding.
But Coleman Trebor is legitimately singled out as an exception to the rule in other sources, lmao.

Hm? Source? Cause the Jedi High Council only appointed Trebor because of his ability to communicate with different alien species and resolving conflict through peace and noted that he wasn't as much a fighter as he was a diplomat.
...Of course then it also says he's capable of defeating most adversaries without even activating his lightsaber, so I guess not being much a fighter is in relation to his ridiculously high diplomacy skill level, not that his fighting ability sucks.
He was also a Soresu user...so if what you say is accurate, then his death makes less sense than it already did....which is to say it didn't make any sense at all.

Not sure it's a direct quote(unless I'm not looking it the right area), but I guess more an implied one. There is a quote says not every Jedi Master is appointed to the High Council, but said Jedi Master none the less are considered ultimate authorities regarding matters of The Force and being true masters of it, that their wisdom and knowledge is usually unparalleled.
If that's the case, then it seems that yeah, a Jedi Council Member would have to be a step up from a regular Jedi Master. Though not sure this would apply to Trebor, seeing as he was appointed to the Council due to his political skill and the like...not saying he wouldn't have great wisdom and knowledge though...so perhaps yes even still.
