Good Troll Army

been meaning to post this topic for weeks. former f.b.i. director comey was addressing the problem of 'troll-farms' which peddle fake news to influence politics. what i found fascinating was his proposal.

You should be skeptical, you should ask questions, you should understand the nature of the news that you're getting and we've delivered that same message to our European colleagues, and an interesting thing is happening, the marketplace of ideas is responding to this.

Because it's not a role for government, people are out there using the power of social media to push back against this kind of thing in France, in the Netherlands, in Germany and I hope it will happen here in the United States, where ordinary citizens will see this bogus stuff going on and push back -- kind of have good troll armies pushing back the other way. So the market place of information is better educated frankly.

What kind of fake news do you feel they peddle mostly? Fake news that benefits the right or the left, or both?

the question and answer was referencing the russia-backed spread of fake news from wiki-leaks. (which you took part in.)

What more should we be doing both to defend our election infrastructure and our future elections against continuing Russian interference?

no i've never seen a funded spread of misinformation from the left. i hear/read lots of vague soros references but no proof of any left-wing wellspring source of misinformation documents, let alone backed by a hostile nation.

One thing that is crazy in our 24/7 media world is that no matter the label (left or right) you need to listen closely to the words used to discern actual news from opinions.

So far most of the russia info on trump is conjecture (he could be guilty but the news leads without specific facts.) So there are conservative troll far right sights and yet many main stream "news" sights lead stories about say Russia and Trump without specific evidence just. Thats a problem for everyone.

Yeah, he definitely makes a point here. Russian government sponsored "troll farms" have been ****ing with Europe(and especially Russia's neighbors) for at least 10 years now. They've branched out into the US only fairly recently.

So what..are you saying that Russia isn't the Big Cuddly Teddy Bear that they used to be???
