Say, you read a story about life expectancy of people by neighborhood. The poorest neighborhood studies will shave 20 years off the average life span. The researcher will claim this is because of poorer schools, opportunities, food, etc..
Which maybe it IS. But they don't really know, do they? Most of them may well life about as long in a more affluant neighborhood.. It's not like we really know for a fact why people live as long as they do. Maybe our clocks just set to what it is, and when it's out time, it's our time.
This "environment" logic applies to just about everything. Smarter people study more. Better athletes just train harder.
I mean, I get why this is the focus: Anything about genetic or racial differences is too close to the "White supremacists" or "neo-Nazi's" for comfort. It just annoys me that this cuts off any kind of real consideration of the topic.... It's simply too much of a hot potatoe issue, which too many people willing to pounce on it for their own agenda.
